Sharing nature through art

A Connection with Nature January 31, 2007

Pastel, on sanded cardboard 11” x 15”

The view from Hide 1C of the Aerie looks ordinary, but when seen from a few steps backwards, through the viewing windows in the Hide, it takes on a new perspective, engaging me with a heightened sense of interest and anticipation of what is out there. The internal wall of the Hide simply blocks out much of the unwanted distractions.Relating encounters with nature to real life situations, I would often pause to re-look at life from fresh angles, cutting out much of the complexities that surround it.

I took the chance to venture forth

But was getting nowhere.

I drifted with the wind and tide,

Longing for a foothold to start my life.

Then I landed on this desolate bank,

Finally safe and anchored I thought,

Not realising I’m still at the mercy of wind and tide

There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks.

Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough to pay attention to the story…… Linda Hogan

I wonder which playful child plucked you to make spinning missiles,

Whose dainty hands have you adorned with your floral bracelets,

Which fair village maidens were wooed by suitors

With your pretty bouquets,

Which hopeful brides you have decked with garlands,

To usher in blissful unions.

I just wonder

A lithely painted canvas,

A travelling art show,

You are my inspiration of beauty

For all that Nature is.

I am ready for my final takeoff

I need the fat

To last the trip up north

But some think I am mad

Looking this heavy and fat.
